Dear Resident or Business Owner, 

South Road Upgrade – South Road weekend closure  

We’re upgrading five key intersections along South Road to reduce bottlenecks, improve traffic flow and make your journey safer and more reliable. 

This September, we’ll undertake major works at the intersection of Tucker Road and South Road to install a new signalised pedestrian crossing and complete resurfacing works.  

What we’ll do and when    

South Road will be closed in both directions between Glenmer Street and Holmesglen Private Hospital 24/7 from 8pm Friday 9 to 5am Monday 12 September to install the new Tucker Road signalised pedestrian crossing and upgrade the road surface.

Detours will be in place for motorists and bus users, please see below maps.

Access will be maintained to businesses with parking available on local streets. The parking in front of the shops on South Road opposite Tucker Road will be closed. Pedestrian access will be maintained along South Road and across South Road at each end of our closure. Traffic controllers will be in place to guide pedestrians across South Road.

We’ll also work each night between 8pm and 5am from Monday 12 to Wednesday 14 September to complete line marking and other finishing works. During this time there will be lane closures on South Road at Tucker Road.

In event of poor weather, works will be rescheduled to the following weekend. We’ll keep you updated of any changes.

What you can expect 

We’ll use trucks and machinery to complete these works, and you may experience some noise and vibration. We’ll undertake regular monitoring and do our best to keep our construction impacts to a minimum.
